The week's top running back add. In the 49ers' opener in Australia, the Indiana rookie out-carried Christian McCaffrey 14 to 10 and ran for 65 yards on about 43% of the snaps. McCaffrey still got the passing-game targets and the red-zone work. The experts disagree about what the split means. Some see Kyle Shanahan finally lightening the load on a back who had 450 touches last season, playoffs included. Others think the travel, McCaffrey's tightness in camp and his cramps during the game made it a one-off. They all agree Black is clearly San Francisco's No. 2 back, possibly the most valuable handcuff in fantasy and a league winner if McCaffrey misses time. Several also see flex appeal at home against Miami, with the 49ers favored by 13. Most say to spend up. The lowest bid comes from a skeptic, who still calls Black a must-add for McCaffrey managers.

A cheap streamer after a monster opener. Young threw for 361 yards, three touchdowns and one interception and ran for another score, making him one of Week 1's top fantasy quarterbacks. The experts admit that game script helped: Chicago scored 59 points, and the Bears' defense is described as a sieve. One expert points out that only one of his touchdown passes came with Carolina more than a possession behind in the second half. Jalen Coker's emergence gives him a second real weapon. The matchups line up well, too. Young has thrown three touchdowns on each of his last two trips to Atlanta, including 448 yards there in November, and the Falcons' pass rush is weak. After that come the Browns and a Detroit secondary missing both starting safeties. One expert warns that his big games have always been followed by letdowns. The bids stay small, with more worth spending in two-quarterback leagues.

A short-term fix at wide receiver. Vele caught seven of nine targets for 69 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' overtime loss in Detroit. He played 82 of 90 snaps and led the team in routes while Chris Olave went in and out of the game with cramps and a back problem. The experts agree the volume was inflated, since New Orleans won't run 90 plays and throw 56 passes every week. Still, the role looks real. He has drawn at least six targets in four of his last five games going back to last season. First-round rookie Jordyn Tyson is out with a hamstring injury until at least Week 5, which leaves Vele as the WR2 for now. The experts disagree on how much to spend. One calls him the top receiver to add, while another won't bid heavily because his value could drop once Tyson returns. Week 2 is a road game in Baltimore.
Caleb Douglas (Mia WR) $4 Avg

A rookie to stash on the bench. Douglas, a third-round pick, led Miami in receiving in his debut with five catches for 94 yards on seven targets at Las Vegas. One expert notes it was the 12th-most receiving yards in a rookie debut since 1998. Most counts show him on the field for about 90% of the snaps, but one article credits Malik Washington with more snaps than Douglas. The experts see the Dolphins' bad offense as a plus for him: Miami should trail often, and Malik Willis looked for him from the opening drive. Douglas also got plenty of deep targets, which excites one expert, whose bid is the week's highest. The caveats are a tough Week 2 trip to San Francisco and fellow rookie Chris Bell, whom some experts still rate as the better talent. The consensus is to pay a modest price for the role now rather than expect points this week.
Mike Gesicki (Cin TE) $2 Avg

A streamer only if you're desperate at tight end. Gesicki led Cincinnati in targets and receiving yards in the win over Tampa Bay, catching five passes for 78 yards and Joe Burrow's only touchdown pass. That was more yards than Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins combined. The experts doubt he can repeat it. He played only 21 of 64 snaps and ran 17 routes on Burrow's 37 dropbacks, and the Buccaneers forced the ball underneath by taking away the outside receivers. One expert pushes back, noting that six of his targets were Burrow's first read, so the looks were designed for him. Road games at Houston and Pittsburgh are next, and one expert says to leave him on waivers. The consensus is a minimal bid if you're desperate. The one bigger bid comes from a dynasty-league expert who says he needs to be rostered there, especially in tight end premium leagues.
